Ah September. It’s that time of the year that while the weather is still warm and great for outdoor events, it’s hard not to know that crispy temperatures and colorful leaves are about to become the norm. But even after you’ve padlocked all white away after Labor Day and started organizing your Sundays around football and not the beach, it’s that touch of Indian Summer that stays in both the air and our heads that make us yearn for those sticky, hot songs from the summer that still work well with the changing of the season.
So here’s a look into some of the songs we have queued up and ready to bump this Fall as we have the feeling these hits haven’t worn out their welcome yet.
iLoveMakonnen – Club Going Up On a Tuesday
While this song was quickly becoming our weekday party anthem, it wasn’t until Drake jumped on this in late July when it became a late entry for jam of the summer. However, with all things Drake—and iLoveMakonnen for that reason—this is quickly becoming one of those songs that no one seems eager to stop listening to anytime soon. From the lush production of Sonny Digital and Metro Boomin to iLoveMakonnen’s flawed, but effective sing-song rap hooks, we’re always guaranteed a room sing-along when this goes on the system.
Bobby Shmurda – Hot Boy
Another rap phenom that seemingly appeared out of nowhere this summer, Shmurda’s pounding and relentless track was like a virus that simply took over the East Coast—and the rest of the country for that matter. Spreading from the far reaches of Flatbush and the Internet, from block parties to Sweet 16’s and Bar Mitzvah’s, this was one that around August began to be requested at almost every party and the demand still hasn’t let up.
Ariana Grande – Break Free ft. Zedd
America’s new pop princess brings the fire to the dancefloor, teaming up with EDM megastar Zedd to craft this perfect marriage of pop power ballad and festival-friendly beats. Really, you can’t ask for a better track that will get both the guys and girls amped up over Zedd’s big beats and Grande’s even bigger vocal melodies. This is one we’re expecting to be playing out for some time.
David Guetta – Summer
While some could consider this the musical equivalent of wearing white after Labor Day, Guetta’s sun-drenched chorus has still got us reaching for this one again and again at pretty much every event when the crowd is ready to get loose. While it’s totally up to you if you want to fist pump when those sugary synths come in, we certainly aren’t going to blame you for doing so.
Magic! – Rude
It’s tough to imagine this song was actually first released almost a year ago, but after this summer, we don’t see this song losing favor anytime soon. From its breezy production and irresistible hook, we’ve seen this song do damage not just on wedding floors—and it’s become an essential for weddings at Nanina’s in the Park— but seemingly any other event where the mood gets a little romantic and people feel like slowing it down a bit. Also, making his second appearance in this list, Zedd just released a cracking remix that will get people dancing and singing along in about as much time as it takes to say, “Marry that girl.”
